Sony Expands OLED Lineup with New, More Affordable Bravia 6 Series
Following a surprise appearance on a company compatibility chart earlier this summer, Sony has officially unveiled the Bravia 6 OLED, a new television series designed to bring premium display technology to a more competitive price point.
The Bravia 6 occupies a new entry-level tier within Sony’s current hierarchy, sitting below the flagship Bravia 8 and Bravia 8 II OLEDs, as well as the high-end Bravia 7 II and Bravia 9 II RGB LED models. By launching this series, Sony is positioning itself to go head-to-head with market-leading rivals like the LG C-series and Samsung’s S90-series QD-OLED TVs.
High-End Features at a Mainstream Price
Despite its more accessible pricing, the Bravia 6 does not skimp on technical specifications. The display features a smooth 120Hz refresh rate, making it an ideal candidate for high-end gaming and fast-paced sports. Furthermore, the inclusion of four full-bandwidth HDMI 2.1 inputs suggests the potential integration of the advanced MediaTek Pentonic 800 chipset, which would unlock support for Dolby Vision 2. While Sony has yet to officially confirm the SoC, the connectivity options are a significant boon for power users and console gamers.
The TV runs on the Google TV platform, now enhanced with Gemini AI integration. Users can take advantage of built-in microphone support for direct voice control, alongside comprehensive support for Dolby Vision, Dolby Atmos, and DTS:X.
A Fresh Approach to Hardware
Accompanying the new TV is a redesigned remote control, signaling a departure from previous layouts. The updated design prioritizes ergonomics, moving the streaming service buttons to the top of the unit for easier access. The remote also features a larger, more centralized directional pad, flanked by essential navigation keys (Home, Settings, and Back). Volume and channel toggles have been shifted to the lower third of the remote to better suit one-handed operation.
Pricing and Availability
The Bravia 6 OLED is launching in a wide range of sizes to suit various living spaces. Pricing for the series is as follows:
- 48-inch: $1,300
- 55-inch: $1,500
- 65-inch: $2,000
- 77-inch: $3,000
- 83-inch: $4,000
With this release, Sony is making a clear play to capture the mid-to-high-end television market, offering consumers the prestige of the Sony brand and OLED picture quality without the premium price tag typically associated with the company’s flagship panels.
