Swan launches real-time oil-in-water monitor for industrial and environmental applications


Swan Analytical Instruments has expanded its online water quality monitoring portfolio with the launch of the AMI-II Fluotrace Oil, a new analyser designed to provide continuous, real-time monitoring of oil contamination in water.

The instrument uses fluorescence technology to detect both hydrocarbons and polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbons (PAHs), enabling operators to identify contamination events before they affect treatment processes, plant equipment or the environment.

According to the company, the system measures oil concentrations from 0.000 to 150 ppm, depending on oil type, and PAH concentrations up to 5,000 ppb, with a response time of around six seconds, making it suitable for applications where rapid leak detection is required.

“With the AMI-II Fluotrace Oil, Swan is delivering a solution that meets the growing need for dependable, low-maintenance hydrocarbon monitoring,” said a spokesperson for Swan Analytical Instruments. “Whether protecting boiler systems, safeguarding drinking water sources, or ensuring compliance in marine applications, users benefit from fast, accurate, and continuous measurement.”

The monitor is intended for use across a range of sectors, including power generation, industrial process water, drinking water production, desalination, wastewater treatment and marine operations. Typical applications include cooling water and condensate monitoring, ballast and bilge water systems, raw water abstraction and environmental discharge monitoring.

Swan says the analyser has been designed to minimise maintenance requirements through a reagent-free measuring principle and nano-coated optical windows that help reduce fouling and maintain long-term measurement stability. Optional automatic cleaning and verification accessories are also available.

The Fluotrace sensor carries an IP68 rating and can be installed in at-line, immersion or in-line configurations, allowing it to be deployed in a variety of operating environments.

The company says the analyser is available with a choice of sensor cable lengths and installation accessories to suit different monitoring requirements.
