And Red Sox boss Chad Tracy was stunned at the atmosphere created by the thousands of Scottish fans.

He said: “It was crazy.

“It felt like a soccer game with the chanting and all that. It was pretty loud.”

And Red Sox pitcher Connelly Early reckoned the Scotland fans helped them, despite their eventual defeat.

He said: “It was a really good atmosphere and a fun game in general.

“I think that helped the offence for sure. That’s a great game to pitch in, unfortunately, I wasn’t able to throw it as well as I wished, but a really good atmosphere.”
