Under the agreement, ASML will support the establishment and ramp-up of Tata Electronics’ planned 300 mm semiconductor fabrication plant in Dholera. The collaboration is intended to contribute to the wider development of India’s semiconductor ecosystem and reflects growing cooperation between India and the Netherlands in critical technology sectors.
The partnership will centre on deploying ASML’s lithography systems and related solutions at the Dholera facility. These technologies are expected to play a key role in enabling efficient and reliable production at what is set to be India’s first commercial-scale 300 mm semiconductor fab.
Beyond equipment, the two companies plan to work together on talent development, supply chain strengthening and research initiatives. These efforts are aimed at supporting the long-term sustainability and competitiveness of the facility, while building local expertise within India’s semiconductor sector.
Dr Randhir Thakur, chief executive and managing director of Tata Electronics, said the partnership would be critical to the project’s success. “ASML’s deep expertise in holistic lithography solutions will ensure the timely ramp of our fab in Dholera, create a resilient and trusted supply chain for our global customers, drive innovation, and develop talent locally,” he said. “This foundational partnership with ASML brings a shared commitment to the highest standards of quality, yield, and manufacturing excellence.”
Christophe Fouquet, president and chief executive of ASML, highlighted the strategic importance of the collaboration. “India’s rapidly expanding semiconductor sector represents many compelling opportunities, and we are committed to establishing long-term partnerships in the region,” he said, adding that the company aimed to contribute both technology and skills development.
The Dholera plant, backed by an estimated $11 billion investment, is expected to produce semiconductors for applications including automotive, mobile devices and artificial intelligence. Tata Electronics has also established partnerships with global companies, including Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), providing access to process technologies ranging from 28nm to 110nm.
Construction of the facility is under way, with the ASML agreement forming part of a broader effort to build a complete semiconductor ecosystem in India, spanning equipment, materials, design and workforce development.
