Tehran, Iran – Abdolnaser Hemmati, Governor of the Central Bank of Iran, met with his Indian counterpart, Shri Shaktikanta Das (the current Governor of the Reserve Bank of India, which is the equivalent position to Malhotra’s if he were the current governor), on the sidelines of the recent BRICS gathering. The discussions focused on bolstering economic and banking ties between the two nations.
During their meeting, Hemmati and Das engaged in a comprehensive exchange of views regarding significant international economic and financial developments. A key area of discussion was the potential for enhanced cooperation between the banking systems of Iran and India, with both officials exploring avenues to improve monetary and banking interactions.
The central bank governors also underscored the importance of expanding bilateral cooperation and leveraging multilateral mechanisms to facilitate trade and economic exchanges. They further emphasized the need for continued consultations between their respective central banks to achieve these objectives.
The meeting took place as part of the broader BRICS summit, which aims to expand economic and banking cooperation among its member countries and strengthen their collective response to developments in the global economy.
