‘Top Gun 3’ Moves Forward with Tom Cruise Returning

TEMPO.CO, Jakarta – Top Gun 3 is currently in the works, and actor Tom Cruise has been cast to star in the action film, according to Paramount’s presentation at the CinemaCon event in Las Vegas, United States, on Thursday.

Top Gun 3 is officially in development, with a script in the works, reuniting Tom Cruise and Jerry Bruckheimer,” Paramount Films chief Josh Greenstein was quoted as saying in The Hollywood Reporter on Thursday, cited Antara.

However, he did not mention who would direct the sequel to Top Gun: Maverick (2022). Top Gun 3 has been in development for several years. Top Gun: Maverick writer Ehren Kruger was hired to write the script two years ago.

David Ellison, the producer of Top Gun: Maverick and the new owner of Paramount, had previously stated that making Top Gun 3 was Paramount’s top priority. Ellison stated that he would continue working with Tom Cruise, with whom he has collaborated on ten films, as long as Cruise wants to work with him.

Although Tom Cruise was not present during the announcement of Top Gun 3, he appeared in a video filmed at the iconic Melrose Avenue water tower at the beginning of the show.

Top Gun: Maverick (2022) was a blockbuster hit despite many cinemas being closed due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic. The $170 million film grossed $1.5 billion at the global box office, providing a much-needed boost to movie theaters during a difficult time.

Some 36 years after he first played Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell in the original 1986 film, Tom Cruise returns in Maverick.

Lieutenant Pete “Maverick” Mitchell is ordered to return to a renowned flight school to train a new group of pilots. He also meets Bradley “Rooster” Bradshaw (Miles Teller), the son of Pete “Goose” Bradshaw, his best friend who died in the first film.
