Tottenham transfer news: Savinho £75m fee agreed with Man City

Tottenham Hotspur Secure £85m Deal for Manchester City Winger Savinho

Tottenham Hotspur have signaled their intent for the upcoming season in emphatic fashion, reaching an agreement with Manchester City to sign Brazilian winger Savinho for an initial fee of £75 million, with an additional £10 million in performance-related add-ons.

The 22-year-old is set to undergo a medical in the coming days before finalizing a long-term contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium. The transfer marks the successful conclusion of a recruitment saga that has spanned over 12 months, following Tottenham’s failed pursuit of the winger during the previous summer window.

While Savinho opted to remain at the Etihad Stadium last season, he struggled to cement a regular starting role under manager Pep Guardiola, tallying only seven Premier League starts. His move to North London comes as part of a significant squad overhaul orchestrated by head coach Roberto De Zerbi, who is looking to infuse his attacking lineup with fresh talent.

A Spending Spree in North London

De Zerbi has been aggressive in the transfer market this window, already securing high-profile midfield reinforcements in the form of Mateus Fernandes from West Ham and Sandro Tonali from Newcastle, with a combined expenditure of £185 million. The acquisition of Savinho pushes Tottenham’s total summer spending beyond the £300 million mark.

However, the club has sought to offset these costs by recouping approximately £140 million through the departures of Cristian Romero, Djed Spence, and Luka Vuskovic.

Further Ambitions

The club’s activity is unlikely to cease with Savinho’s arrival. Sources have indicated to BBC Sport that negotiations regarding a deal for Manchester City teammate Omar Marmoush are progressing positively. The Egyptian forward, who joined City in 2025 for £59 million, has similarly found himself out of favor under Guardiola’s rotation system.

Additionally, Tottenham retains an active interest in Liverpool forward Cody Gakpo. Whether the club can balance their financial books to facilitate a move for the Netherlands international alongside the acquisitions of Savinho and Marmoush remains a key question for the remainder of the window.

As the North London club prepares to kick off their Premier League campaign against Brentford this Saturday, the arrival of such high-caliber talent suggests a serious push for domestic honors. Meanwhile, reigning champions Manchester City will open their own title defense on Sunday as they host Bournemouth at the Etihad.

This aggressive recruitment strategy reflects the growing pressure on top-flight clubs to solidify their squads, a trend highlighted in recent Premier League analysis regarding the changing landscape of elite football spending.
