Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Targets Rs 225 Crore Milestone as First Monday Tests Staying Power

The highly anticipated gangster drama Toxic: A Fairy Tale for Grown-Ups, starring Yash and Kiara Advani, is officially moving into its first crucial week. Following a thunderous opening weekend that saw the film cement its place as a massive commercial force, the Geetu Mohandas directorial is now focused on sustaining its momentum as it approaches the Rs 225 crore domestic net milestone.

A Powerful Start

The film arrived in theaters on August 26 with a staggering opening-day India net collection of Rs 101.10 crore, successfully eclipsing the debuts of several recent major releases. Across its first five days, Toxic has maintained a commanding presence at the box office, fueled by 24,579 opening-day shows and high audience turnout.

While the film experienced a natural post-weekend correction, its cumulative performance remains robust. As of the end of Day 5, the film had earned an India net total of Rs 214.10 crore. By early Day 6, the film’s Toxic box office collection had pushed the India net total to Rs 215.19 crore, with its worldwide gross reaching an impressive Rs 285.20 crore.

Navigating Mixed Reception

Despite the film’s undeniable commercial success, it has navigated a landscape of mixed reactions. Set against the backdrop of Portuguese-era Goa, the film features Yash in a dual role—portraying both the protagonist Raya and his son, Ticket. The ensemble cast includes Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Rukmini Vasanth, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria.

The film, which received an ‘A’ certificate from the CBFC, has sparked public debate regarding its depiction of violence and the treatment of its female characters. These discussions have even drawn attention from political figures, leading to broader conversations about how the CBFC evaluates extreme on-screen content. Nevertheless, these critiques have yet to significantly impact the film’s box office trajectory, as audiences continue to flock to theaters.

Looking Ahead: The Path to 250 Crores

As the film enters its first Monday, industry trackers are closely watching how the numbers stabilize. With 4,259 shows running on Day 6 alone, the immediate objective for the producers is to clear the Rs 225 crore net mark in India before setting sights on the ambitious Rs 250 crore milestone.

Day-wise India Net Earnings (Approx):

  • Day 1: Rs 101.10 crore
