Safety Incident Overshadows Yash’s ‘Toxic’ Promotional Event at Hyderabad University
HYDERABAD: What was intended to be a high-energy celebration for the upcoming film Toxic took a distressing turn on Tuesday, as a structural collapse at Malla Reddy University left two students injured. The incident occurred during a promotional event featuring superstar Yash, drawing fresh scrutiny toward safety protocols at large-scale fan gatherings.
Structural Collapse During Stage Address
The event, which saw thousands of students and fans assemble to catch a glimpse of the KGF icon, faced complications when a segment of the event’s lighting and sound equipment reportedly gave way. The collapse occurred while Yash was actively addressing the crowd. According to reports, a heavy speaker box or floodlight rigging fell into the section where students were crowded close to the stage.
Two youngsters sustained injuries during the commotion. Witnesses noted that one female student reportedly lost consciousness following the impact. Emergency responders and event staff acted quickly to transport the injured individuals to a nearby hospital for urgent medical attention. While the extent of their injuries is still being evaluated, the incident cast a somber shadow over the festivities.
Yash Pauses Event to Ensure Safety
The actor was visibly concerned as the disruption unfolded. Upon noticing the commotion near the stage, Yash paused his address to verify the safety of his fans. He personally checked in with organizers to ascertain the status of the injured students. After receiving assurances that the situation was being managed and there were no life-threatening issues, he resumed his speech. However, the event’s atmosphere remained tense as attendees reflected on the precarious nature of the crowd density.
Crowds and Safety Concerns
The incident has ignited a wider debate regarding the management of massive crowds at film promotional tours. Even before the collapse, local police had reportedly issued warnings to the student body to maintain distance from the stage to mitigate the risk of a stampede. Despite these directives, many attendees had climbed onto stage structures and audio equipment to gain a better vantage point, placing significant strain on the temporary infrastructure.
About ‘Toxic’
Despite the unfortunate incident, anticipation for the film remains high. Toxic is a gritty gangster action drama directed by Geetu Mohandas. Beyond Yash, the film boasts a star-studded cast, including Nayanthara, Kiara Advani, Huma Qureshi, and Tara Sutaria. With music composed by Charan Raj, the project has already been certified ‘A’ by the CBFC and is currently scheduled for an August 26 release.
As of now, organizers have faced criticism for the lack of adequate cordoning, with many calling for stricter enforcement of safety regulations to prevent such mishaps during future promotional tours.
