Bret Michaels Cancels Remainder of ‘Live and Amplified’ Tour to Focus on Recovery

Rock icon and Poison frontman Bret Michaels has officially announced the cancellation of all remaining tour dates for his ‘Live and Amplified’ tour. The decision comes as the singer continues to navigate a challenging recovery period following a recent surgery to remove kidney stones.

The announcement was made via an official statement on Michaels’ Facebook page, confirming that the veteran musician will be stepping away from the stage for the next several months to ensure he returns to full health.

Medical Advice Prompts Departure

While Michaels attempted to resume his performance schedule shortly after his procedure, appearing at The Bowl at Sugar Hill in Georgia, his medical team has since intervened to prioritize his long-term wellbeing.

His doctors, Dr. Abby Borhan and Dr. Patel, released a joint statement explaining the necessity of the hiatus: "We will be pulling Bret off the road for the time being. He wanted to attempt this show, but we feel there is a much-needed period of rest and slow recovery ahead, especially considering the heat and humidity during the summer months and the effect it can have on his blood sugar levels."

Michaels, who has lived with Type 1 diabetes for much of his life, faces additional health complications that make strenuous touring environments particularly difficult during his recovery.

A Difficult Decision for the Frontman

In the official announcement, the Michaels Entertainment Group offered a heartfelt apology to fans who were eagerly awaiting upcoming performances, including appearances at The Mountain Music Festival and various private events.

"Our deepest apologies from Michaels Entertainment Group, as we were truly looking forward to the rest of this year’s shows," the statement read. "We now look ahead to Bret being able to return healthy, strong, and ready to rock."

The Road to Recovery

The singer first alerted fans to his health struggles last month. Following his hospitalization, Michaels shared his gratitude for his medical team, acknowledging the severity of the situation. At the time, he noted that the kidney stone would not pass on its own, necessitating medical intervention.

In a reflective social media post, Michaels shared his commitment to his health, stating, "I’m out of post-op recovery, and I’m doing everything within my power to feel better and continue playing great shows for great fans when I’ve got a complete clean bill of health."

This tour was intended to be a significant milestone for the singer, marking 20 years of his tenure in the music industry. While fans will have to wait for his return, the overwhelming sentiment from the music community is one of support for his recovery. For now, the ‘Live and Amplified’ tour is on indefinite hold as the rock star focuses on getting back to 100 percent.
