UPDATE:
The fire started as employees were stacking a pile of recyclables.
Workers at Sangamon Mass Transit District (SMTD), a warehouse in front of the scrap yard, said they heard a loud bang and then saw flames.
The Springfield Fire Department (SFD) say that they have the fire under control and are making sure that other parts of scrap, especially underneath the piles, are not still on fire.
No injuries have been reported as of this posting.

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (WICS) – The Springfield Fire Department is fighting a possible scrap pile fire at Mervis Recycling located at 1100 South 9th Street.
