The claim that anti-Hindi sentiment began in Tamil Nadu after J Vijaya became Chief Minister is misleading. The viral video dates back to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit during the election campaign.
New Delhi (Vishvas News). After J Vijaya became the Chief Minister (CM) of Tamil Nadu, a video has gone viral on social media showing people blackening the Hindi text on a signboard written in Tamil, English, and Hindi. The video is being shared with the misleading claim that Vijaya’s appointment as CM has triggered anti-Hindi sentiments in the state.
Vishvas News investigated and found this claim to be misleading. This video of an anti-Hindi protest in Tamil Nadu dates back to when MK Stalin was the CM. The protests are related to Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Tamil Nadu on March 11, 2026 during the election campaign, when similar protests happened in several places in the state. Such anti-Hindi protests have also occurred in Tamil Nadu before.
