Thousands of runners descended on Newport on Sunday for what organisers described as the “largest-ever” ABP Newport Marathon Festival, with more than 10,500 participants taking part across a range of races.
The event, held on April 19, featured a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and junior races, drawing competitors of all ages and abilities. Conditions proved ideal for running, with sunshine throughout the day and dry weather, while large crowds gathered along the route to support friends, family and elite athletes alike.
Runners began with a loop through the city centre before heading out onto the wider course. The routes, designed by Run 4 Wales race director and former Olympic marathon runner Steve Brace, are known for being flat and fast – a reputation reinforced this year by several standout performances.
