A popular beach on Anglesey has just got a little more famous – and the locals are fuming. Traeth Llanddwyn, a pine-backed beach with a romantic island, has been named the UK’s best beach.

The 3.5-miles stretch of sand has dramatic views looking out towards across the seas towards the peaks of Eryri. In naming Llanddwyn the UK’s best beach, from a list of 40, Time Out said the place was simply “heavenly”.

The consumer site, published online in 59 countries, said: “Cream sand, a whitewashed lighthouse, dunes scattered with wildflowers, a pine tree backdrop and silhouettes of Eryri National Park’s peaks in the distance – Traeth Llanddwyn offers a true dreamscape.

“At low tide visitors can access Llanddwyn Island, Wales’ official ‘Island of Love’. It’s the home of the aforementioned lighthouse and the 16th century church of St Dwynwen, the Welsh patron saint of lovers. Look out for the wild ponies that graze the sand dunes and help preserve the landscape.”
