Controversial filmmaker Ram Gopal Varma has waded into the ongoing debate surrounding producer Allu Aravind’s recent remarks about Kannada superstar Yash. The controversy erupted after Aravind questioned, “Who was Yash before KGF?”—a comment that drew the ire of the actor’s massive fanbase.

Taking to social media platform X (formerly Twitter), Varma dismissed the outrage as “ridiculously laughable,” arguing that the public has grossly misinterpreted the producer’s intent.

“Even a dumbo should understand that it was in the context of big films with unknown actors,” Varma wrote. He drew parallels to other pan-India successes, noting that the Hindi-speaking audience was largely unaware of Prabhas prior to Baahubali or Rishab Shetty before Kantara.

To illustrate his point further, Varma invoked Hollywood legend Marlon Brando, stating, “I didn’t know Brando before The Godfather… That’s because those films made them big stars and not the other way around.” He further noted that directors like Christopher Nolan prioritize acting prowess over the “stardom” of their leads, emphasizing that films like Oppenheimer would succeed regardless of the casting.
