This development marks a significant step in making the compelling narrative accessible to a broader audience in India, where the original Japanese broadcast is already available for simulcast streaming. The series, which premiered on July 4th as part of TV Asahi’s "IMAnimation W" programming block, captivated viewers with a special one-hour debut featuring its first two episodes.
The anime has been garnering international attention even before its full release. A world premiere screening showcasing the initial three episodes took place on June 13th at United Cinemas Aqua City Odaiba. Its artistic merit was further recognized through its participation in the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France, where it was screened in the TV Films category. Additionally, Anime Expo hosted the U.S. premiere on July 3rd, offering American fans an early glimpse into this richly imagined world.
"A Witch’s Life in Mongol" transports viewers to the thirteenth century, amidst the vast expanse of the Yeke Mongol Ulus, the largest empire the world had ever witnessed. The story centers on Fatima, a brilliant woman from Persia, a land renowned for its advanced medical techniques and scientific knowledge. Driven by a desire to apply her skills on a grand stage, Fatima journeys to the Mongol palace. There, she comes under the influence of Töregene, the formidable sixth wife of Ögedei, the second Great Khan. Töregene, a powerful figure with complex feelings about the empire’s trajectory, forms a crucial alliance with Fatima. Together, these two remarkable women become central to the intricate political machinations of the palace, their actions ultimately shaping the destiny of the entire world.
The animation studio Science SARU is behind the production, with Naoko Yamada, celebrated for her work on "The Heike Story" and "A Silent Voice," serving as chief director. Abel Góngora, known for "DAN DA DAN" and "Scott Pilgrim Takes Off," is directing the series. The character designs and animation chief responsibilities are handled by Kenichi Yoshida, acclaimed for "Eureka Seven" and "Gundam: Reconguista in G." Kanichi Katō, who has contributed to "Black Clover" and "The Eminence in Shadow," oversees the series scripts.
