From Kerala to the Global Stage: 19-Year-Old Law Student Crowned Miss Universe India 2026
In a dazzling display of poise, intellect, and grace, 19-year-old Kaziah Liz Mejo has made history by being crowned Miss Universe India 2026. The Kerala-born talent emerged triumphant over a competitive field of 52 contestants during a high-stakes national finale held in the historic city of Jaipur this past Sunday.
With this prestigious victory, Mejo has officially become the first representative from Kerala to capture the Miss Universe India title. She now shoulders the responsibility of representing the nation on the world stage at the 75th Miss Universe pageant, scheduled to take place in Puerto Rico this coming November.
A Multifaceted Rising Star
Hailing from Mavelikkara, Kerala, Mejo’s upbringing was truly international. Having spent a significant portion of her childhood in Abu Dhabi, UAE, she attended esteemed institutions including Emirates National School, St. Joseph’s School, and the Abu Dhabi Indian School.
Today, she balances the rigorous demands of a law student with an burgeoning career in modeling. Her pursuit of academic excellence serves as a testament to her disciplined approach to life, even as she navigates the glamour of the pageant world.
Beyond the classroom and the runway, Mejo is a woman of diverse talents. A trained classical dancer with over 12 years of experience, she is also a skilled musician who plays both the drums and the violin. Her artistic repertoire is further rounded out by a passion for public speaking and acting; she even marked her silver screen debut in the Malayalam film Shylock.
A Triumphant Finale
The road to the crown was anything but easy. The finale in Jaipur saw 53 hopefuls vying for the title, tested on their confidence, communication, and overall stage presence. Following Mejo’s win, Vaishnavi Gannesh of Tamil Nadu was crowned the first runner-up, while Anushri Satavlekar of Gujarat secured the second runner-up position, earning the title of Miss International India 2026.
The judging panel featured icons who understand the magnitude of the crown, including former Miss Universe Sushmita Sen, alongside former Miss Universe India winners Urvashi Rautela and Celina Jaitley.
