India Post Launches Major Recruitment Drive: Over 25,000 GDS Vacancies Announced for 2026

The Department of Posts, under the Ministry of Communications, has officially released the notification for the Gramin Dak Sevak (GDS) Online Engagement Schedule-II for July 2026. This massive recruitment drive aims to fill more than 25,000 vacancies across various postal circles nationwide, offering significant employment opportunities for eligible candidates.

Vacancy Details and Roles

The India Post GDS Recruitment 2026 covers three primary designations:

  • Branch Postmaster (BPM)
  • Assistant Branch Postmaster (ABPM)
  • Dak Sevak

Successful candidates will receive a Time Related Continuity Allowance (TRCA). BPMs are eligible for a scale of Rs. 12,000 to Rs. 29,380, while ABPMs and Dak Sevaks will receive between Rs. 10,000 and Rs. 24,470, based on a daily work commitment of four to five hours.

Eligibility Criteria

To be considered for these positions, applicants must meet specific educational and personal requirements:

  • Education: Must have passed Class 10 with passing marks in Mathematics and English.
  • Language: Proficiency in the local language of the respective postal circle is mandatory.
  • Skills: Candidates must possess basic computer knowledge and the ability to ride a bicycle.
  • Age: Applicants must be between 18 and 40 years of age as of September 21, 2026. Age relaxations are applicable per government regulations.

Application Process and Selection

The selection process is merit-based, generated automatically through a system that calculates Class 10 marks to four decimal places. Shortlisted individuals will be required to undergo physical document verification and a medical examination.

Fee Structure:
Male candidates under the UR, OBC, and EWS categories must pay a nominal application fee of Rs. 100. Female candidates, transwomen, SC/ST, and PwBD applicants are exempt from the fee.

  2. Complete the One-Time Registration (OTR) using a valid mobile number and email address.
  3. Fill in academic details and select preferred postal divisions.
  4. Upload the required documents (photograph and signature).
  5. Pay the fee and submit the application before the September 21, 2026, deadline.
