Italian Propulsion Specialist Castoldi Expands Strategic Footprint with New India Subsidiary

ALBAIRATE, Italy – In a significant move to bolster its international presence, Italian marine engineering firm Castoldi has announced the launch of its new Indian subsidiary, Castoldi India. The expansion marks a major milestone for the manufacturer, aimed at providing dedicated local support for its advanced waterjet propulsion systems while aligning with the Indian government’s influential “Make in India” initiative.

The establishment of this local entity underscores a long-term strategy to deepen the company’s involvement in the region’s burgeoning maritime market. By operating on the ground in India, Castoldi plans to streamline service for its existing clients and actively participate in domestic procurement programs that prioritize the progressive indigenization of high-tech defense and commercial marine components.

Deepening Roots in the Indian Market

Castoldi is no stranger to the Indian maritime sector. For over a decade, the company has served as a key supplier for high-stakes naval and commercial projects. Most notably, its waterjet technology has been the backbone of the Indian Navy’s Fast Interceptor Craft (FIC) program, with 80 vessels currently in operation relying on Castoldi propulsion systems since 2013.

Giacomo Castoldi, CEO of the family-founded company, highlighted the strategic importance of the move during the announcement. “We believe strongly in the partnership between Italy and India,” said Castoldi. “India is a country with enormous potential for waterjet propulsion technology—in both the commercial and defense sectors—and this step reflects our long-term commitment to this market.”

A Legacy of Engineering Excellence

Founded in 1962 by the visionary engineer Luigi Castoldi, the company has spent over six decades at the forefront of marine propulsion and tender design. Headquartered in Albairate, Milan, the firm has built a reputation for high-performance, resilient technology capable of meeting the rigorous standards of global navies, coast guards, and commercial operators.

The decision to establish an Indian subsidiary arrives on the heels of several major technical advancements for the firm. Castoldi has recently expanded its portfolio with the launch of the Turbodrive 340 H.C.T. and secured significant certifications, such as Lloyd’s Register approval for its Jet Tender 19 RB SOLAS, demonstrating a sustained commitment to innovation and safety.

As the company transitions into this new phase of localized operations, the industry expects a surge in collaborative industrial ties between Castoldi and Indian maritime partners. By combining its Italian heritage in precision engineering with the local capabilities fostered by “Make in India,” Castoldi is well-positioned to maintain its competitive edge in the evolving global maritime landscape.
