Charting a New Course: Bridge to Bridge Challenge Smashes Records to Raise £50,000 for Sailors’ Children

The Hull-based Sailors’ Children’s Society has hit a monumental fundraising milestone, with their annual “Bridge to Bridge” (B2B) cycling challenge raising a record-breaking £50,088. This year’s staggering total pushes the event’s four-year cumulative earnings to nearly £107,000, providing a vital lifeline for children and families from seafaring backgrounds facing financial hardship and crisis.

The 2026 challenge saw a record 17 riders complete an arduous 200-mile journey, pedaling from the QEII Bridge over the Thames all the way to the Humber Bridge. The team of cyclists included Adam Walsh, Jack Nicklas, Andrew Cassels, Sam Cawley, Rich Quelch, Chris Zanetti, James Pinchbeck, Megan Tudor, Dan Leather, Dave Cudbertson, Nick Tudor, Helen Simpson, Stefan Williams, Andrew Exon, Andrew Sison, Andy Rankin, and Carl Nicklas.

Adam Walsh, CEO of the John Good Group and the visionary behind the B2B ride, expressed his pride in the growth of the initiative. “It’s incredible to see how much Bridge to Bridge has grown over the last four years,” Walsh said. “This year we had a record number of riders taking part, including a fantastic group from John Good Group, and there was a brilliant atmosphere across the whole weekend. What started as a cycling challenge has become something really special.”

He added that the success of the event is a testament to the community spirit surrounding the cause. “Every year more people get involved, more businesses get behind us and, most importantly, we raise more money for the Sailors’ Children’s Society. To have now raised more than £100,000 across the four events is something everyone who has ridden, supported, or sponsored the event should be incredibly proud of.”

The cyclists were bolstered by a wide network of local businesses and supporters, including Hull Trains, Beerhouse Vehicle Rental, Woods of Hornsea, CT1, Ken Ellerker, Sport Vision, Blink Video, and event mechanic Gareth Joseph.

Rhiannon Beeson, interim CEO of the Sailors’ Children’s Society, was left overwhelmed by the generosity displayed. “We are absolutely blown away by what our riders have achieved this year,” Beeson remarked. “To have 17 people take on Bridge to Bridge and raise an incredible £50,088 is beyond anything we could have hoped for. Behind that number are children and families from seafaring backgrounds who turn to us during some of the most difficult periods of their lives.”

According to the charity, the funds raised will be deployed immediately to provide essential financial, practical, and emotional support to families in need. Beeson credited the success to the unwavering commitment of the riders and the generosity of local businesses in Hull and East Yorkshire, whose contributions of services and equipment proved vital in making the 2026 challenge the charity’s most successful outing to date.
