Despite their previous declarations that Senator Robin Padilla will not be running in the 2028 elections, and that he is quitting politics, his wife actress-host Mariel Padilla said he is not yet done with politics.
Speaking in the May 16 podcast of Sen. Imee Marcos, Mariel said her husband is still not finished with his advocacy to help the people, and she wants him to keep working in the government.
“Minsan napapaisip ako na tapusin na lang [termino niya bilang senador] or sometimes kapag may nasabi na out of context na parang I feel na they don’t deserve him, may mga ganu’n ako (Sometimes, I think that he should just finish his term as senator, or sometimes, when things are said out of context, that makes me feel like they don’t deserve him. I have those days),” she told Marcos.
The former “Pinoy Big Brother” host then clarified that she was referring to those who speak negatively about Robin as a senator.
“When I said they don’t deserve him, I’m talking about those who say bad things about him. They do not deserve him,” she said.

“But there are so many people — the Muslims, and indigenous groups — ang daming people na umaasa sa kanya. Kawawa talaga sila (There are many people who rely on him. I feel sorry for them),” she continued.

Back in February, Mariel said in an interview that she feels Robin is unappreciated in his political career and that he has decided not to run in the 2028 elections.
In Marcos’ prodding, Mariel also shared that she wanted to keep seeing Robin in politics, though she didn’t disclose whether the latter has plans to run for a higher office in the 2028 elections.
“When you ask me if I want him to continue, yes. For me, hindi pa po tapos. For me, marami pang hindi natutuunan ng pansin (For me, he is not yet done. For me, there are things that deserve attention),” she said.
Robin, who is a staunch supporter of former President Rodrigo Duterte, said earlier this year that plans to leave the country for good, citing its rotten political system. He later on made a turnaround and said that he will run for a higher office, like the vice presidency, if Duterte would say so.
Duterte is currently incarcerated at The Hague in the Netherlands while the International Criminal Court (ICC) is hearing his charges for crimes against humanity. His daughter, Vice President Sara Duterte, already expressed her intention to run for president amid the impeachment complaint filed against her in connection with over allegations of misusing hundreds of millions in confidential funds, unexplained wealth, bribery, and grave threats made against top government officials, including the President
Citing his deep frustration in Philippine politics, Robin expressed his desire to leave the country for good. However, he was quick to say that he will run for a higher office if the elder Duterte would tell him so.
More recently, Robin was declared a “person of interest” in the whereabouts of Senator Ronald “Bato” dela Rosa, who is also facing an arrest warrant before the ICC. /edv
