The family of a ‘gentle giant’ dad killed in an attack at a karaoke bar in Tameside have paid a heartfelt tribute to him.
A murder probe was launched after a man aged in his 30s was killed in a ‘shocking and violent’ attack at the Blues Cabaret and Karaoke Bar on Bow Street in Ashton-under-Lyne at around 2.40am on Saturday (July 11). The man was sadly pronounced dead on the scene.
He has now been named by his family as Shane Cullen. Mr Cullen, 31, leaves behind a young daughter.

In a tribute, Shane’s family said: “I don’t know how to put into words that my first born has been taken away from his little girl, his brothers, myself and his dad, and his girlfriend Chelsea – who thought the world of him. Shane was a big, gentle giant who wouldn’t hurt anyone. Has was a good dad, son and brother. He will be sadly missed.
“All our hearts are broken and can never be fixed. Shane was a joker, always having the last laugh. He was very outgoing, loved to be out rather than stay in. He loved getting involved with outdoor activities with his daughter.
“He was a great dad, caring and loving. His family is broken and can never be put back together. Shane would have a smile to light up the room. I hoped it didn’t have to come to this.
“Shane was taken from us much too soon. Rest in peace Shane, we love you.”
A 36-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder and assault following the fatal attack. He remains in custody today (Monday), a spokesperson for Greater Manchester Police said.
Detectives believe the attack was ‘isolated’ with ‘no wider risk to the community’. The owners of the karaoke bar said they had taken the decision to voluntarily close the venue until further notice.
The bar on Bow Street, which used to be known as Olivers Bar, said it acknowledged the incident ‘with great sadness’ in a post on Facebook.
