Anna Nagar election results 2026: TVK's VK Ramkumar

V. K. Ramkumar of the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) has won the Anna Nagar assembly seat, defeating his nearest rival by a margin of 21,363 votes after the completion of all 20 rounds of counting.Ramkumar secured 71,375 votes, while the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam’s (DMK) N. Chitrarasu finished second with 50,012 votes. AIADMK’s S. Gokula Indira came third with 34,382 votes, as the high-profile Chennai constituency delivered a decisive verdict in favour of the TVK.The contest in Anna Nagar drew significant attention, with the DMK fielding Chitrarasu, its Chennai West District Secretary, in place of two-term MLA M. K. Mohan. The AIADMK relied on veteran leader and former minister Gokula Indira, who had earlier won the seat in 2011. However, it was Ramkumar, the new entrant representing TVK, who emerged victorious on the back of a campaign centred on technology-led “smart ward” governance. The result marks a major shift from previous elections in the constituency. In 2021, DMK’s M. K. Mohan retained the seat with 80,054 votes, defeating Gokula Indira by 27,445 votes. In 2016, Mohan had also won, albeit by a much narrower margin of 1,687 votes. This time, however, the DMK was unable to hold on, as the TVK made significant inroads into the urban electorate.Voter turnout in Anna Nagar stood at 85.65%, a sharp rise from 57.18% recorded in 2021, indicating heightened political engagement in this election.
