Alex Cooper is opening up about the claims about the work environment at her media company, Unwell.
While attending Cannes Lions, the Call Her Daddy podcast host addresses the allegations of a toxic workplace.
âI will say that building a startup, there is so much growth that comes with that, and I am extremely proud of what we have built at Unwell,â Cooper told The Wall Street Journalâs Suzanne Vranica. âAnd I will just kind of leave it at âdonât believe everything that you read on the internetâ â but I think everyone knows that at this point.â
Last month, Vanity Fair published a report citing over 40 sources at Cooperâs Unwell, which was allegedly fostering a toxic work environment with her husband and co-CEO Matt Kaplan being verbally abusive to employees.
Vranica pressed Cooper on the claims that some of her employees have with the media mogul, saying, âI think that we have done a really incredible job at Unwell, and I think if you walk the halls, there are so many people that are so happy to work at this company. I think, unfortunately, being a woman in this industry is extremely difficult because youâre held to a complete different standard. Whether itâs a smear campaign being created for someoneâs narrative â whatever it be.â
She continued, âI think when you read lies about yourself to fuel something else that is an obvious situation going on, itâs hard. But I think the reason that Iâve had success in this industry is I have really thick skin, and Iâm going to keep pushing forward.â
