Bradley Barcola set for Liverpool medical as £123m transfer from PSG edges closer

Liverpool Close in on Landmark £123m Signing of Bradley Barcola

Liverpool are on the verge of completing a blockbuster deal for Paris Saint-Germain winger Bradley Barcola, with the France international set to undergo a medical this weekend ahead of a move worth up to £123 million.

The deal, which represents the most significant transfer of the current Premier League window, will see Liverpool pay an initial fee of £106 million, with an additional £17 million tied to performance-related add-ons. Upon his arrival at Anfield, the 23-year-old will sign a five-year contract, becoming the second-most expensive signing in the club’s illustrious history, trailing only the £125 million acquisition of Alexander Isak.

A Summer-Long Pursuit

Liverpool’s interest in the winger has been no secret, with the club identifying him as their primary transfer target earlier this summer. After over a month of intense negotiations, the two clubs finally reached an agreement in principle on Thursday. While PSG initially held out for a valuation closer to £145 million, the persistent pressure from Anfield successfully brought the Ligue 1 champions to the negotiating table.

Remarkably, Barcola continued to train with his PSG teammates as recently as Thursday while legal teams finalized the documentation for his departure.

Strategic Fit Under Iraola

The move is a major statement of intent for new head coach Andoni Iraola, who has spent the summer looking to overhaul his attacking options following the departure of club legend Mohamed Salah.

“I think for a club like us, we need wingers who can make the difference, who can be the man who can make the difference in isolation, who can attack the spaces, and who can also do the defensive work that we are going to demand,” Iraola noted in a press conference on Thursday. “It is difficult to find someone who can tick all the boxes, but it is what we are trying to do.”

Barcola, who played a key role in France’s journey to a fourth-place finish at the recent World Cup, is expected to make his debut as soon as September 4, when Liverpool travels to Portman Road to face Ipswich Town.

A Transforming Forward Line

For Barcola, the move offers a fresh start after slipping down the pecking order in Paris. With PSG manager Luis Enrique bringing in the likes of Ferran Torres and Mika Godts this summer, the Frenchman found his opportunities limited behind Ousmane Dembele and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia.

While Bradley Barcola prepares for his Anfield medical, Liverpool’s recruitment team remains active. The club is still pursuing a wide player for the opposite flank, having seen two bids rejected by Brighton for Yankuba Minteh, while maintaining an interest in Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.

The squad could see further movement in the coming days, with uncertainty surrounding the future of Cody Gakpo, who has attracted late-window attention from both Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester City.

As the transfer deadline looms on Tuesday at 11:00 PM, all eyes will be on Merseyside to see if the Reds can finalize their squad and secure a player expected to don the No. 29 shirt for the upcoming campaign.
