Call of Duty Returns to Nintendo: Digital Legends Tapped for Modern Warfare 4 Switch 2 Port
After a 13-year hiatus, the Call of Duty franchise is set to make a triumphant return to Nintendo platforms this October. Activision has officially confirmed that the highly anticipated Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is coming to the Nintendo Switch 2, with the publisher lifting the veil on the specialized studio responsible for the technical heavy lifting.
Infinity Ward, the principal developer behind the Modern Warfare sub-series, has partnered with the Barcelona-based developer Digital Legends to bring the title to Nintendo’s next-generation hardware.
A Proven Track Record
Founded in 2001, Digital Legends initially built its reputation as a powerhouse in the mobile gaming sector. Following its acquisition by Activision in 2021, the studio has become a critical cog in the Call of Duty machine. Digital Legends has already contributed significantly to the ecosystem, working on titles such as Black Ops 6, its successor Black Ops 7, and the ever-popular Warzone.
The studio expressed its excitement regarding the collaboration in an official statement:
"Breaking boundaries once again! Infinity Ward, in partnership with Digital Legends, is developing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 natively for Nintendo Switch 2, bringing the MW series to Nintendo players for the first time in more than a decade. More to come later this summer!"
Hands-On Impressions and Beta Details
Ahead of the game’s official launch, Activision has provided select content creators and members of the press with early access to the Switch 2 version. Early reports indicate that the port is performing impressively, alleviating concerns regarding how a high-fidelity shooter would translate to the portable-hybrid console.
Players won’t have to wait long to experience the action for themselves. The open beta for the Nintendo Switch 2 version kicks off on August 28, 2026. This preview will grant players access to the intense campaign mission "Entrenched" as well as a suite of multiplayer modes—complete with full crossplay support, allowing Switch 2 users to compete with gamers across other platforms.
