Coastguard and lifeboat called to beauty spot
Coastguard teams sprang into action to rescue an injured person at a Devon beach.
The Hartland and Bideford Coastguard Rescue Teams were called to the beach at Buck’s Mills, in North Devon, shortly after 4pm yesterday, July 17.
With a lifeboat crew in attendance too, the rescuers were able to carry the injured person up a steep slope from the beach to an ambulance.
The Bideford team was enroute to the emergency when it was diverted to help find a missing child at Westward Ho!
But before they could get there, the child was found safe and the coastguard team was able to prioritise the injured beach-goer.
On social media, a Bideford Coastguard Rescue Team spokesperson said: “The team was initially tasked by Falmouth Coastguard to assist Hartland Coastguard Rescue Team and Clovelly Lifeboat with an injured person on the beach at Bucks Mills.
“While en route, we were diverted to a separate incident following a request from the RNLI lifeguards, who reported a missing child on Westward Ho! beach.
“Clovelly and Appledore lifeboats were also tasked to assist. As our officer in charge was gathering further information from the lifeguards, we received the welcome news that the missing child had been located safe and well.
“With that incident safely resolved, the team was immediately re-tasked to Buck’s Mills, where we assisted Hartland Coastguard Rescue Team with a stretcher to carry (the injured person) from the beach, up the steep access, and into the waiting ambulance.
“These incidents highlight how quickly resources can be redirected to where they’re needed most, often dealing with multiple emergencies at the same time.”
