FCC Environment has donated £2,004 to the Demelza Children’s Hospice towards the delivery of specialist care for children, from income generated by Reuse shops and pop-up shops in Kent.
FCC staff, who operate a number of Kent County Council’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs), selected Demelza Children’s Hospice as one of three local charities to receive a share of the income generated through their reuse activities.
Reuse activities at the HWRCs are an ideal alternative to throwing away reusable items. Toys and household items can be donated by members of the public and are then sold on giving others an opportunity to use these pre-loved items.

Income generated from sales donated to Demelza Children’s Hospice will directly help children with serious or life-limiting conditions, alongside emotional and practical support for their families. This could include nursing care, short breaks, and wellbeing support at the hospice and at home.
Loren Regan at Demelza Children’s Hospice, said: “We are so grateful for the support from FCC Environment and KCC’s reuse programme. We rely on over 80% of our funding to come from the local community to sustain our services including family support, counselling, and outreach, so donations like this make a huge difference.”
Vikki Sedgwick, Mid & East Kent Education and Communications Officer for FCC Environment, said: “We’re really pleased to be able to support this extremely worthy charity. The re use shops are ideal way to extend the life of unwanted items and we couldn’t be more pleased that the profits from these sales are supporting local charities.
