FCC Environment has donated profits from its reuse sales in Kent to the Air Ambulance Charity Kent, Surrey & Sussex (KSS) in support of its lifesaving efforts.
A total of £2,004 has been donated to KSS from the sale of reuse items at KCC’s Household Waste and Recycling Centres (HWRCs) which FCC Environment operate on their behalf. Dedicated reuse containers are available at most HWRCs, so reusable items can be diverted from disposal or recycling, giving others the opportunity to use pre-loved items.
KSS, along with two other charities, were selected by FCC Environment staff to benefit from the donations. The total raised could fund 44 sets of defibrillator pads used to resuscitate a patient in sudden cardiac arrest or two blood transfusions delivered directly at the scene of the accident to treat a patient with life threatening blood loss.
Last year, KSS were tasked to over 3,100 missions, flying highly skilled specialist HEMS doctors and advanced paramedics to the scene of an emergency, bringing the hospital directly to the patient’s side where the crew performs lifesaving procedures. This life saving service is a charity. It costs £57k every single day, almost £21m per year and a huge 91% of this is funded through donations.
Vikki Sedgwick, Mid & East Kent Education and Communications Officer for FCC Environment, said: “The reuse shops and pop-up shops across Kent are an excellent way to promote reuse and extending the life of household items by giving them new homes. We strive each day to divert items away from disposal, and we’re so pleased that the proceeds are directly benefitting the charities within our local communities.”
