Tragedy Strikes Kolkata Hotel: Nine Dead, Including Child, in Devastating Blaze

Anuj Sharma, the fire services director of West Bengal state, confirmed the grim toll to AFP, stating, "Nine people were killed, including a child, in the fire that broke out early on Wednesday." Some victims were found in the bathrooms," suggesting that many may have succumbed to smoke inhalation while attempting to find refuge.

Those who sustained injuries were swiftly transported to a nearby hospital for medical attention.

The incident drew an immediate response from Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who expressed his profound sorrow over the loss of life. Just this past Monday, a blaze at a hotel in West Bengal’s temple town of Tarapith resulted in the deaths of at least seven people and left several others critically injured. In December of the previous year, a catastrophic fire ripped through a popular nightclub in the western state of Goa, killing at least 25 individuals.
