Home and Security Editor Mark White was forced to interrupt GB News on Monday, following reports of air raid sirens in Tel Aviv.
Halting the programme, the journalist said: “Ok, just before we cross to newspapers, we want to bring you an update again on the situation in Israel. Hopefully we’ve got images of Tel Aviv live this morning, where the sirens have just sounded.”
As GB News aired a chilling clip of the city, White continued: “If you just have a listen to this, this is the sirens sounding just a minute ago. So the air raid sirens are sounding there over Tel Aviv, central Israel and also northern Israel [because of] incoming ballistic missiles from Iran as yet another wave has come in.
“There have been two waves already this morning of ballistic missile attacks. This is the third. We had about two or three waves last night so it is absolutely continuing into this morning, which is understandably a worrying indication of where we might be headed in terms of retaliatory strikes.”
A shocking development, Israel and Iran traded fire overnight, putting an end to the ceasefire agreed upon in April, with Iran sending a barrage of missiles at Israel on Sunday evening, which were intercepted. In response, Tel Aviv has since targeted numerous locations, including a petrochemical complex in the southwest of Iran.
Israeli military said in a statement: “A short while ago, the IDF identified missiles launched from Iran toward the territory of the State of Israel. Defensive systems are operating to intercept the threat.
“In the past few minutes, the Home Front Command has sent a precautionary directive directly to mobile phones in the relevant areas. The public is asked to act responsibly and follow the instructions—they save lives. Upon receiving an alert, the public is instructed to enter a protected space and remain there until further notice.”
With tensions rising, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is expected to hold a cabinet meeting today at 11am local time. Israeli media reports have suggested that Netanyahu and a select group of senior ministers and security officials will discuss military, security and diplomatic responses to the situation.
