Google Unveils New Blue Gradient Ring for Paid Account Tiers, Revamps Profile Menu

Mountain View, CA – August 19, 2026 – Google is rolling out a significant visual update to its account interface, introducing a distinctive blue gradient ring around user profile photos to signify subscription to its various paid tiers. This change replaces the previously used four-color ring (red, blue, green, and yellow) that denoted a standard Google One subscription, and comes as Google expands its premium offerings to include AI-focused services.

The new blue gradient ring will appear around a user’s Account photo in a vast majority of first-party Google applications. While initially anticipated to exclusively highlight subscriptions to the new AI Plus, AI Pro, and AI Ultra tiers, an update from Google confirms that this new ring will also be applied to non-AI Google One subscribers, streamlining the visual identification of all paid Google accounts.

Beyond the aesthetic change to the profile picture, Google is also implementing a more compact and informative design for the fullscreen menu that appears when users tap their account avatar. This updated menu now prominently features the user’s email address, profile picture, and name within a dedicated card, which also clearly indicates their specific paid tier. The account switcher, allowing users to easily switch between multiple Google accounts, is now integrated into this refined card design.

"Manage your Google Account" has been given increased prominence within this new menu, making account management more accessible. Additionally, Google is leveraging this updated interface for strategic upselling, with options like "Upgrade to Google AI Ultra" or similar prompts appearing to encourage users to explore higher-tier subscriptions.

The rollout of this new design is progressing on a per-device basis for Android users. If the update is live on a user’s phone or tablet, the new blue gradient ring and updated menu will appear across most Google applications simultaneously. However, Google acknowledges that not all applications have received full support for the new design as of today.

A similar launch is underway for web users, with the blue gradient ring already being observed on the google.com homepage. While not yet universally available, the update is steadily reaching more users, indicating a broader deployment strategy by Google to unify its premium account branding across platforms.

This visual refresh and menu redesign are part of Google’s ongoing efforts to enhance user experience and clearly differentiate its increasingly diverse range of subscription services, particularly with the growing emphasis on artificial intelligence functionalities. As Google continues to integrate AI into more aspects of its ecosystem, clear visual indicators like the new blue gradient ring will play a crucial role in user navigation and understanding of their subscribed benefits.
