Teenager Murdered in Gruesome Black Market Organ Scheme Fueled by Social Media Misinformation
BHOPAL, India — A horrific murder in central India has sent shockwaves through the country, as local authorities reveal the details of a plot to harvest human organs for the black market based on viral misinformation found on social media.
The victim, identified as a 17-year-old street vendor named Rehan, was killed by a gang who believed they could profit from a gruesome scheme. According to police reports, the suspects were operating under the delusion—gleaned from a social media video—that human testicles could be sold on the international black market for upwards of 12 million Indian rupees, or nearly £100,000.
A Calculated Lure
The investigation began after Rehan, who sold pens and key chains near the Iqbal Maidan market in Bhopal, was reported missing by his mother. Investigators allege that on August 6, two minors approached the teenager and offered him 100 rupees to assist them in a purported fight near the city’s Lower Lake.
Once Rehan was lured to a secluded area, the group attacked him from behind, stabbing him repeatedly with a blade. Deputy Commissioner of Police Ayush Gupta confirmed that four of the accused took part in the fatal assault, while the alleged ringleader, 20-year-old business student Zoheb Khan, guided the operation remotely via a video call.
Pretending to be Medical Professionals
Police state that Khan, who purported to have medical knowledge, orchestrated the morbid logistics of the crime. To bolster his facade, Khan had allegedly purchased a white apron, a stethoscope, and a thermometer online, which he used to train other members of the gang on how to extract organs.
Following the murder, the gang removed the teenager’s testicles and stored them on ice for two days while attempting to find a buyer. When no buyers materialized, Khan reportedly ordered the group to dispose of the organs in local lakes.
The Aftermath
Rehan’s body was recovered from Lower Lake near Dhobi Ghat on August 10. Investigators identified the victim five days later using a distinct tattoo. A post-mortem examination corroborated the brutal nature of the attack, confirming that the victim suffered fatal stab wounds and had been surgically mutilated.
Authorities have since arrested Khan and 18-year-old Aamir Qureshi, along with three other minors connected to the incident. Police have recovered the knife believed to be the murder weapon and have deployed divers to search the lakes for the discarded organs.
This tragic case highlights the lethal dangers posed by the spread of false information online. Officials are now questioning several individuals who were contacted by the group as potential buyers, as they continue to unravel the disturbing human tracking plot.
The investigation is ongoing as police work to determine the full extent of the gang’s planning and whether any other individuals were targeted by this dangerous group.
