Kangana Ranaut Slams ‘Westernised’ Relationship Culture Following Bengaluru Double Murder
Mumbai, India – Outspoken actress Kangana Ranaut has ignited a fresh debate on the state of modern relationships in India, leveraging the recent, horrific Bengaluru double murder case to criticize what she perceives as the detrimental influence of "westernised" culture. The actress, known for her strong opinions, took to Instagram to express her dismay and issue a stark warning against the normalization of toxic relationship trends.
The Bengaluru case, which has shocked the nation, involves the alleged murder of a man and his five-year-old son. Police have arrested the man’s wife, and investigations are ongoing into the role of her alleged lover and the precise circumstances surrounding the child’s tragic death.
Ranaut shared a news report of the incident on her Instagram stories on Wednesday, questioning the apparent rise in violence within relationships. "Every other day news is full of such cases, women throwing men off the cliff, or men packing women in blue drums? It’s easy to be westernised but people in the west are not deleting each other under social pressures of arranged marriage or conservative culture," she wrote, drawing a sharp contrast between perceived societal pressures in India and the West.
The actress further cautioned against passively accepting these evolving relationship norms, suggesting that such tragedies can strike close to home. "It sounds very cool to be accepting of it all until it’s your own child that ends up in a drum. So wake up. Don’t let this culture of benching, ghosting, crumbing, body counts to desensitise you. Don’t normalise it," she urged her followers.
Ranaut directly linked the concept of "body counts" – a term often used in contemporary relationship discourse – to what she views as the broader dehumanisation of human connections. She concluded her provocative post with a chilling reference to the "blue drum" often cited in reports of such gruesome crimes: "Once you are ok with human relations being reduced to mere body counts then don’t cry when you will be reduced to a dead body. Say no to westernised culture of calling human relationships as just body counts, get ready to troll me but remember there is a blue drum in your vicinity too ha ha, bye have a good day."
In a subsequent Instagram story, Ranaut reiterated her warning, suggesting a dangerous societal desensitization. "You normalise this for others families tomorrow it will be your turn," she stated, highlighting the potential for societal apathy to lead to widespread suffering.
The actress then posted an image of a blue drum, a clear and disturbing visual reference to the disposal of bodies in high-profile murder cases, to further underscore her point. She directly challenged those who trivialize human relationships by reducing them to "body counts": "To all my friends who think it’s ok to call human relationships as body counts and reduce humans to just mere bodies…. Ha ha ha I said nothing."
On the professional front, Kangana Ranaut recently starred in ‘Bharat Bhagya Vidhata’, directed by Manoj Tapadia. The film, inspired by the valor of hospital staff during the 2008 Mumbai terror attacks, pays tribute to the doctors, nurses, and other workers who continued their duties amidst the chaos. Released in theatres in June, the medical survival drama, featuring Ranaut in a lead role, began streaming on ZEE5 from August 14.
