There are delays on three different motorways this afternoon (M56) in Cheshire and Merseyside. National Highways North-West announced on X just before 3pm that traffic on the M6 northbound near Warrington had been stopped between junction 20 at the Lymm Interchange and junction 21 at Manchester Road in Woolston.
The agency said emergency services are at the scene and warned drivers to expect delays of 70 minutes and six miles of congestion on the approach. Traffic monitoring service Inrix is reporting that one lane has been closed.
A Cheshire Police spokesperson told the ECHO that the crash involved two cars and no-one is believed to be have been seriously injured. There are also “obstructions on the road” causing delays on the M56 eastbound between junction 14 at Chester and junction 12 in Runcorn and on the M53 northbound between junction four at Bebington and junction three at Woodchurch.
