Bruno Fernandes has broken the record for most Premier League assists in a season after the Manchester United star produced his 21st against Brighton on the final day
Bruno Fernandes has broken the Premier League record for assists in a season after laying on Manchester United‘s opener at Brighton.
The Portuguese star had 20 – joint with Kevin De Bruyne and Thierry Henry – going into the clash at the Amex before assisting Patrick Dorgu.
In last weekend’s 3-2 win over Nottingham Forest Fernandes equalled the record, leaving him just one game to set himself apart from De Bruyne and Henry. He was on hand to deliver the corner as Dorgu headed home on the south coast.
Fernandes has helped United enjoy a major revival in the second half of the season as Michael Carrick’s side rise up to third and secure Champions League football. The ex-Sporting Lisbon star has enjoyed arguably his most influential season, proving to be at his creative best.

He’s topped a host of attacking metrics and they have helped him scoop several individual accolades. Fernandes was named the FWA Footballer of the Year and then backed that up this week by being named the Premier League Player of the Season.
Fernandes is among the favourites to be named the PFA Player of the Year – and that would make him the first United player to win the award in the post Sir Alex Ferguson-era. The Portuguese star, who will be key to his country’s World Cup efforts this summer, has claimed that he wants his efforts to end in team titles, not individual prizes.
He recently told Sky Sports: “I haven’t achieved everything I wanted. I’ve never hidden that I want to win the Premier League and the Champions League with the club. I might do it, I might not. But until I get the chance or until I’m here to do that, I’m going to try.”
Since Fernandes arrived in the Premier League six years ago no player has created more chances than him. He has created 670 chances since January 2020, 238 more than City icon De Bruyne who is next on the list.
Nobody has provided more assists since Fernandes’ Premier League debut (72) and only five players have scored more than his 70 league goals as he continues to come up trumps in the final third.
