Mohanlal’s "Athimanoharam" Commences Filming in Pampa Amidst Sabarimala Controversy

Pampa, Kerala – Superstar Mohanlal’s highly anticipated film, "Athimanoharam," has officially begun its production schedule in the Pampa region, nestled near the revered Sabarimala temple. The shoot, which kicked off on Tuesday, follows the Travancore Devaswom Board’s (TDB) approval for filming in the area.

This development, however, arrives amidst a backdrop of increasing scrutiny regarding commercial film shoots at Sabarimala. Kerala Devaswom Minister K Muraleedharan had previously voiced concerns, stating that regular film productions should not be permitted within the sacred temple premises. Despite these broader policy discussions, the "Athimanoharam" production team has proceeded with its planned schedule in Pampa, as reported by Manorama News.

Mohanlal Dons Police Uniform as Sub Inspector TS Lovelajan

In "Athimanoharam," written by Ratheesh Ravi and directed by Tharun Moorthy, Mohanlal steps into the role of Sub Inspector TS Lovelajan. Visuals from the Pampa shoot show the actor in a police uniform, generating excitement among his fans. Actress Meera Jasmine is set to portray the character of Naicy.

Promoted as Mohanlal’s 366th cinematic endeavor, "Athimanoharam" is slated for a theatrical release on December 24, 2026. The production team had secured explicit approval from the Travancore Devaswom Board to film in both Pampa and Nilakkal.

Forest Department Denies Access to Periyar Tiger Reserve

While the TDB granted permission for filming in specific areas, the production’s ambitions have encountered a roadblock with the Forest Department. The "Athimanoharam" team required separate permission for shooting in areas under the Forest Department’s jurisdiction, particularly beyond Pampa. This request was ultimately denied.

The Forest Department cited the locations’ inclusion within the protected Periyar Tiger Reserve as the primary reason for refusing permission. This decision has effectively limited the production’s ability to continue its proposed schedule in those ecologically sensitive zones. Earlier reports indicated that the TDB had initially given conditional approval for filming between Pampa and Sannidhanam, highlighting the varying levels of access and restrictions across different authorities.

A Prolific Future: Mohanlal Announces Seven New Projects

Away from the ongoing discussions surrounding "Athimanoharam"’s filming locations, Mohanlal has exciting news for his legion of fans. The veteran actor recently unveiled an ambitious lineup of seven upcoming projects, signaling a busy period ahead in his illustrious career.

Taking to social media, Mohanlal shared the announcement, expressing his enthusiasm: "Exciting stories, exciting journeys and some very special filmmakers. Here’s a glimpse of my seven upcoming projects with Vishnu Mohan, Anoop Sathyan, Priyadarshan, Dileesh Pothan, Sathyan Anthikad, Jude Anthany Joseph, and Jeethu Joseph."

This extensive list includes a previously announced collaboration with director Vishnu Mohan, tentatively titled L367, details of which remain under wraps. Another significant project is Mohanlal’s reunion with acclaimed director Priyadarshan for his 100th film. Furthermore, Dileesh Pothan has confirmed his project with the superstar, titled "Nedumkandam Miracle," adding to the already impressive slate of films. This flurry of announcements underscores Mohanlal’s continued dominance and creative drive within the Malayalam film industry.
