Nashville Airport Poised for Historic Rename in Honor of Dolly Parton
In the wake of the passing of legendary country music icon Dolly Parton, a grassroots movement to rename the Nashville International Airport in her honor has gained significant momentum. If approved, the move would place Nashville among a prestigious group of cities that have rebranded their airports to honor cultural icons, including the Louis Armstrong New Orleans International Airport, Muhammad Ali International Airport in Louisville, and John Wayne Airport in Orange County.

The transition is not without procedural challenges. The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority currently maintains a policy requiring that any individual honored with such a naming must have been deceased for at least two years. However, officials have confirmed that both the governor’s proposal and a potential review of the naming policy are slated for discussion during the board’s upcoming meeting on September 17.
