Navy Federal Scheme: Jacksonville Woman Accused of Fleecing Members in $22K Fraud Case

JACKSONVILLE, Fla. – A 50-year-old woman is facing serious felony charges after allegedly orchestrating a scheme that siphoned thousands of dollars from unsuspecting Navy Federal Credit Union members across Jacksonville.

Carrie Dempsey was arrested on October 16 following a warrant issued by the Jacksonville Sheriff’s Office. Authorities took Dempsey into custody after she was transported from the Turner County Jail in Georgia. She now faces charges of organized fraud and multiple counts of criminal use of personal identification information.

According to an arrest report released by investigators, the fraudulent activity took place over a six-day period between August 12 and August 18, 2026. During that time, Dempsey allegedly targeted various Navy Federal branch locations throughout the Jacksonville area to conduct unauthorized withdrawals from member accounts.

The investigation into the scheme revealed a pattern of activity that resulted in significant financial losses for the institution. Police documented four successfully completed transactions totaling $25,400. Additionally, the report details an attempted transaction in the amount of $9,800, which was blocked.

The credit union was forced to step in to protect its members, providing full reimbursements to at least two individuals who confirmed to investigators that they had not authorized the transactions linked to their accounts. Following these internal restitution efforts, the total verified financial loss sustained by Navy Federal Credit Union stands at $22,500.

The circumstances surrounding the initial investigation and the acquisition of the victims’ personal identification information remain under active review by authorities. It is not yet clear how Dempsey allegedly gained access to the sensitive account details required to bypass security protocols at the bank branches.

Dempsey is currently being held on substantial bond amounts. Court records indicate that her bond is set at $50,003 for the charge of organized fraud, with an additional $25,003 bond attached to each of the two counts of criminal use of personal identification information.

While the charges against Dempsey are severe, it is important to note that she has not been found guilty. Under the American justice system, she remains innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Legal proceedings are expected to follow as the prosecution prepares its case against her.

Authorities are urging customers of financial institutions to remain vigilant regarding their account statements and to immediately report any suspicious or unrecognized activity to their banks and local law enforcement.
