NBEMS Schedules Re-Exam for 2,445 Candidates Following Technical Disruption at Jaipur Centers
JAIPUR – The National Board of Examinations in Medical Sciences (NBEMS) has announced a remedial examination for over 2,400 medical aspirants whose pursuit of a postgraduate seat was interrupted by a significant power failure at two test centers in Jaipur, Rajasthan.
The board confirmed that a total of 2,445 candidates affected by technical disruptions at the iON Digital Zone iDZ Sitapura centers (test center numbers 41682 and 41683) will now appear for a NEET PG 2026 re-examination. The test is scheduled to take place on Saturday, September 5, 2026, commencing at 3:00 PM in Jaipur.
Technical Failure Disrupts Nationwide Exercise
The disruption occurred during the nationwide NEET PG 2026 examination held on August 30. While the exam proceeded smoothly for the vast majority of the 2.73 lakh registered candidates, internal power supply issues—attributed by the NBEMS to the examination conducting agency, M/s TCS Ltd.—rendered the systems inoperable at the two specific Jaipur locations.
NBEMS officials expressed regret over the incident, emphasizing that the decision to hold a re-examination was made to ensure an “equitable opportunity” for all affected students.
Massive Logistics and Security Measures
The nationwide examination was a massive logistical undertaking, spanning 1,111 centers across 339 cities in every state and Union Territory. According to official figures, approximately 2,65,980 candidates appeared for the exam, with 2,63,535 successfully completing the test before the disruption hit the Sitapura centers.
To ensure the integrity of the exam, the NBEMS implemented a multi-layered security and monitoring framework:
- Real-time Oversight: 16 Regional Command Centers were established to provide live coordination.
- Surveillance: All centers were placed under live CCTV surveillance, monitored directly from the NBEMS Command Centre in Dwarka by a combined team of 190 NBEMS and TCS personnel.
- Expert Presence: More than 700 senior faculty members, including Deans and Medical Superintendents, were deployed as Flying Squad members, supplemented by 2,527 Independent Appraisers.
- Strict Authentication: Aadhaar-based biometric authentication was enforced at all centers to eliminate the risk of impersonation.
Ensuring Fairness
While the August 30 exercise was largely successful, the board acknowledged the frustration of the affected candidates and thanked them for their patience. By scheduling the re-test for September 5, the NBEMS aims to close the final chapter of the 2026 examination cycle, ensuring that no eligible medical graduate is penalized for infrastructure failures beyond their control.
