Sony has raised its forecast for PlayStation for the current fiscal year, predicting results that would set a new industry record.
The company previously predicted its gaming division would achieve ¥600 billion (~$3.75 billion) in operating income for the 12-month period scheduled to end on 31st March, 2027.
But in its latest earnings report, it significantly increased that number to ¥660 billion (~$4.1 billion), which would be the greatest year for any gaming company ever.
Nintendo previously achieved operating income of ¥640 billion (~$4 billion) in its fiscal year ending 31st March, 2021, which was boosted by hit releases like Animal Crossing: New Horizons and the pandemic.
If Sony achieves its goal, then it would comfortably clear that.

The company cites tariff refunds, advantageous foreign exchange rates, and an improvement to costs as the reason for the uplift.
It’s also safe to assume it expects to profit significantly from the release of GTA 6, as well as first-party games like Marvel’s Wolverine and God of War Laufey, both of which are scheduled to release during this current fiscal year.
The company does mention “adjustments to the FY26 first-party title roadmap” as a potential negative, suggesting it was planning to release more exclusive games during this period.
It’s possible that Until Dawn 2 or maybe even Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet were due out during this period, and have since been moved.
Sony may have also been counting on PC releases of titles like Ghost of Yotei this fiscal year, which we know have since been cancelled.
But these are truly extraordinary forecasts considering the current economic predicament the industry faces.
While there’s a lot of doom and gloom surrounding consoles, and the PS5 has seen its price increase on the back of a component crisis, the platform holder is planning for a record breaking fiscal year.
