Poland Village Honors Local Business Owners for Historic Restoration and Beautification Efforts
POLAND, Ohio – The Poland Village Council’s Town One Range One Committee recently took time to honor two local entrepreneurs whose recent renovations have significantly bolstered the aesthetic appeal of the community. The awards, presented on Tuesday, September 1, were given in recognition of exceptional property beautification efforts, timed to align with ongoing preparations for the nation’s upcoming America 250 celebrations.
Committee member Kathy Miller praised the property owners for their dedication to upgrading their storefronts, noting that these investments serve as a blueprint for community revitalization. “These property owners are doing exactly what we hoped they would do—improve the property, make it more attractive for the village, and inspire other people to do the same thing,” Miller said.
Historic Preservation: The Old Stone Tavern
Among those recognized was Jack Shetler, whose work on the iconic Old Stone Tavern on Main Street has earned high praise from the council. According to Miller, the revitalization project included comprehensive repairs to the exterior brick and mortar, the restoration of historical windows, and the addition of a welcoming back patio.
The building, which dates back to 1804, holds a special place in local history. Believed to be the oldest standing structure in the village, it once served as a vital stagecoach stop, providing essential lodging, food, and hospitality to weary travelers making the long trek between Cleveland and Pittsburgh.
Revitalization: Mosquito & Tick Blockers
The second honoree, Ed Wojciechowski, was recognized for his transformative work at the Mosquito & Tick Blockers facility on Sheridan Road. The property had sat vacant for a full year before Wojciechowski stepped in to revitalize the site. His project included extensive updates to the exterior facade, a complete overhaul of the parking area, and refreshed landscaping that has significantly brightened the streetscape.
A Legacy for the Future
These beautification projects represent more than just individual property upgrades; they are part of a broader push to prepare the village for national milestones. Local officials expect both the Old Stone Tavern and the modernized Sheridan Road property to be featured on the upcoming Poland Village Historical House Tour, showcasing the town’s successful blend of historic preservation and modern progress.
