Huge community celebration saw thousands take to the streets
Police update after six arrested
- Police have given an update on six people that were arrested at a “peaceful and good-natured” St Pauls Carnival event on Saturday (July 4). Many thousands of people attended the event which resulted in just six people being arrested by Avon and Somerset Police.
- Police said that more than 300 officers and staff were involved throughout the day and into the night to ensure the safety of those who attended. It said the “majority of sound systems” were turned off at the times previously indicated and the event as a whole was “peaceful and good-natured”.
- Six people were arrested at the event for various offences with two being charged. One man, 33-year-old Iyub Mohammed from St Pauls, was due to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today charged with being drunk and disorderly and for breaching a Community Protection Notice. A 17-year-old was arrested on suspicion of breaching a Criminal Behaviour Order, being in possession of a bladed article, and being in possession of cannabis and was remanded into custody to appear at Bristol Magistrates’ Court today.
- Two men were arrested on suspicion of affray, one of whom was also arrested for possession of cannabis. Both have been released on bail.
- Two men were arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and both have been released on bail. A police spokesperson said that “a male presented to ambulance and police in Wilder Street with a wound to his cheek. He was taken by ambulance to hospital where his injuries were confirmed to not be life-threatening or life changing.”
