Shiprocket Soars on Stock Market Debut, Marking Strong Investor Confidence
Mumbai, India – E-commerce logistics platform Shiprocket made a remarkable entry into the stock market on Wednesday, with its shares listing at a significant premium of approximately 35% over its initial public offering (IPO) price. This robust debut underscores strong investor demand and positions Shiprocket as a notable tech listing in the current year.
On the National Stock Exchange (NSE), Shiprocket shares commenced trading at an impressive Rs 131 per share, reflecting a 35.05% premium compared to its IPO price of Rs 97. Similarly, on the Bombay Stock Exchange (BSE), the stock opened at Rs 129.50, a 33.5% premium, solidifying its status as one of the year’s most impactful tech market entries.
The positive momentum continued throughout the trading day, with Shiprocket’s stock extending its gains post-listing. On the NSE, the shares reached a high of Rs 144, an increase of 9.92% from its opening price. The BSE witnessed a similar surge, with the stock touching Rs 143.90 against its opening price of Rs 129.50.
The stellar performance follows the overwhelming success of Shiprocket’s Rs 1,617.48-crore IPO, which was open for subscription from August 12 to August 14. The offering was subscribed an astonishing 99.38 times overall, reflecting widespread investor enthusiasm.
Demand was particularly strong from Qualified Institutional Buyers (QIBs), whose portion was subscribed an impressive 122.80 times. Non-Institutional Investors (NIIs) also showed significant interest, with their portion being subscribed 88.99 times. Retail investors actively participated, oversubscribing their portion 46.42 times. The company had set the IPO price band at Rs 92-97 per equity share.
Ahead of its public issue, Shiprocket successfully raised Rs 727.41 crore from anchor investors. This was achieved through the allotment of 7.50 crore shares at Rs 97 apiece, which was the upper end of the price band. Prominent investors, including Temasek and Eternal, were part of this anchor investor round, further validating the company’s potential.
Strategic Utilization of IPO Funds
Shiprocket has outlined clear plans for the utilization of the substantial funds raised from the IPO. A significant portion will be allocated to enhancing marketing initiatives and strengthening its core technology infrastructure. Furthermore, the company intends to use part of the proceeds to repay existing debt, pursue potential strategic acquisitions, and address general corporate requirements, positioning itself for sustained growth and expansion.
