Sony Announces Massive Double-Feature State of Play for September 3rd

Gaming fans have a major date to mark on their calendars. Sony has officially announced that its next major PlayStation State of Play presentation will air on Thursday, September 3rd.

The event, which has been the subject of industry speculation following recent leaks from prominent insiders, promises to be a packed showcase for the PlayStation ecosystem.

What to Expect

The primary broadcast is set to kick off in the early hours for North American viewers and early afternoon for those in Europe. The start times are as follows:

  • PT: 6:00 AM
  • ET: 9:00 AM
  • BST: 2:00 PM
  • CEST: 3:00 PM

According to an official company blog post, viewers can anticipate a mix of updates and fresh announcements from both internal PlayStation Studios and various third-party partners. The highlight of the main show will be an “extended look” at the highly anticipated Final Fantasy VII: Revelation.

A Second Showcase: State of Play Japan

Immediately following the main presentation, Sony will transition into a secondary broadcast titled “State of Play Japan.” Hosted by renowned Japanese voice actor Yuki Kaji, this segment will specifically spotlight titles from developers across Japan and Asia, promising new gameplay footage and additional announcements.

While Sony has not disclosed the total duration for either presentation, both will be streamed live via the official PlayStation YouTube and Twitch channels.

The Landscape of PlayStation Releases

This September presentation arrives at a pivotal moment for Sony. With Marvel’s Wolverine slated for release on September 15th, Sony is in the final stages of its marketing push for what is arguably its biggest title of the season. Given how much has already been revealed regarding Logan’s upcoming adventure, the focus of this week’s event is likely to shift toward the broader future of the PS5 library.

Speculation is currently rife regarding which other projects might receive updates. Among the titles fans are eager to hear about are:

  • God of War: Laufey
  • Until Dawn 2
  • The expansion for Ghost of Yotei
  • The mysterious new IP, Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet

Beyond the heavy hitters, State of Play has historically served as a vital platform for indie and mid-tier titles. Whether this showcase will provide long-awaited release windows or surprise reveals remains to be seen, but with two distinct broadcasts back-to-back, Sony appears ready to dominate the conversation for the remainder of the week.
