Stockport driver fined for breaking temporary speed limit


Emma Hartley, of Firswood Mount in Gatley, Stockport, was found guilty in her absence at Carlisle Magistrates’ Court on June 26, 2026.

She was convicted of exceeding a 40mph temporary speed restriction on the M6 in Cumbria.

The incident occurred on July 14, 2025, near Clifton Bridge in Penrith, while driving a Volkswagen.

The area was subject to a temporary limit due to ongoing roadworks between junctions 39 and 40.

Hartley was fined £440 and ordered to pay £150 in costs to the Crown Prosecution Service. She must also pay a £176 victim surcharge.

Her driving record has been endorsed with five penalty points.
