“He Wakes Up Crying Every Day”: Parents Demand Justice After Brutal Assault of 3-Year-Old at Delhi Day Care
NEW DELHI: A harrowing case of child abuse has emerged from a day care centre in Delhi’s Maujpur area, where a three-year-old boy was allegedly subjected to a sustained campaign of physical violence. The abuse, which has left the toddler deeply traumatized, was uncovered only after the boy’s parents accessed chilling CCTV footage from the facility.
The parents’ worst fears were confirmed when the footage showed staff members repeatedly hitting, slapping, and kicking the young child. In one disturbing clip, a teacher is seen pushing the boy—who was seated in a plastic chair—across a tiled floor with her legs before cornering him to deliver hard slaps. Another video captures a caretaker violently shaking the toddler.
A Cycle of Abuse
The victim’s father, speaking to the media while masking his identity for protection, described his son’s daily agony. “He wakes up crying every morning. He is terrified that we will send him back to school. He is in a very bad condition—anxious and non-stop crying. I don’t know how long it will take him to recover from this trauma,” the father stated.
According to the father, the abuse was not an isolated incident but a recurring ordeal. On August 18, the child returned home vomiting and dizzy. A subsequent medical examination revealed swelling in both eyes, and an ENT specialist later confirmed that the boy’s eardrums were severely inflamed. Due to the child’s extreme fear of machines and loud noises—a side effect of his abuse—the family has been unable to conduct a necessary CT scan.
“Tied Up and Tortured”
The father detailed the calculated nature of the cruelty. “From 9:45 am until 12:30 pm, they kept my child tied up with an apron. Whenever he tried to move, they hit him. When he asked to be untied, they would hit him again to force him back into the chair,” he alleged. The footage also reportedly shows the child being left alone, only to be beaten again by the caretaker upon her return.
The psychological impact on the toddler is profound. The father revealed that the boy has become so conditioned to violence that he now instinctively covers his ears and holds out his hands whenever he makes a minor mistake during daily lessons, fearing an immediate, violent reprisal.
Police Action and School Response
In response to the evidence, the Delhi Police have registered a case under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act. Authorities have named four individuals as accused: the school’s director, Sunita Bansal; the principal, Neelam; and two teachers, Simran and Pooja. A caretaker has also been arrested in connection with the assault.
When the parents confronted the school’s management, they were met with indifference. The father recounted that the school owner showed no remorse, reportedly suggesting that the child was simply a “wrong fit” for their facility and claiming that the staff members were “absolutely fine.”
As the investigation continues, the victim’s family remains focused on their son’s recovery, struggling to help him overcome the deep-seated fear that has transformed a once-happy toddler into a shell of himself.
