Coventry is braced for scorching temperatures today (May 25), with highs of 34C expected. Forecasters say the heatwave could make it one of the hottest May days on record.
Temperatures are expected to reach 34C, with ‘unbroken sunshine’ throughout the day, says the Met Office. In Coventry, the heat will build through the afternoon from 30C at 12pm to a peak of 34C by 4pm.
Conditions in Warwickshire are expected to intensify as hotter weather sets in earlier in the day with clear skies expected. At 3pm, the Met Office predicts the region will hit 34C, one hour before Coventry.

A spokesman for the Met Office said: “Bank Holiday Monday will be dry and settled with high pressure dominating. It will become hot in the light winds, with afternoon temperatures possibly breaking records for May.”
Looking ahead to Tuesday in Coventry, the Met Office said: “Another mainly dry, often sunny and hot day is on the cards on Tuesday. However, some patchy cloud is possible, and an isolated heavy shower cannot entirely be ruled out.”
Officials at the UK Health Security Agency (UKHSA) have issued health alerts for Coventry, Birmingham, and the Black Country. Significant impacts are expected from the high temperatures, including a higher number of deaths among people over the age of 65.
Dr Anya Gopfert, Consultant in Health Protection at UKHSA, said: “We know that even moderate heat can lead to serious health problems, especially for older people and those with certain health conditions, so it is important that everyone takes simple precautions while enjoying the warm weather over the coming days.
“If you have friends, family or neighbours who are more vulnerable, it is important to check in on them and ensure they are aware of the forecasts and are following the necessary advice.”
