Burger King India Hits Major Milestone: First Quarterly Profit Recorded Amid Strong Sales Growth

Restaurant Brands Asia Limited (RBA), the master franchisee for Burger King in India, has officially entered a new growth phase, reporting its first-ever positive quarterly profit after tax. The company’s performance for the second quarter of the 2027 fiscal year, ending September 30, 2026, reflects a significant turnaround in its financial trajectory, underscored by a surge in demand and improved operational efficiency.

Robust Financial Performance

The operator’s consolidated revenue from operations climbed to Rs 844.8 crore, representing a 20.1 percent increase compared to the same quarter the previous year. A standout highlight of the financial report was the company’s consolidated EBITDA (before Ind AS 116), which skyrocketed by 280.7 percent to reach Rs 43.2 crore, a massive improvement from the Rs 11.3 crore reported in the year-ago period.

On a standalone basis, Burger King India demonstrated remarkable vigor with a 14 percent same-store sales growth (SSSG). Revenue for the Indian arm surged by 24.1 percent year-on-year to Rs 705.6 crore. Most notably, the company reported a standalone profit after tax of Rs 15.59 crore—a historic first for the business, signalling that its aggressive expansion strategy is finally yielding bottom-line results.

Strategic Expansion and Operational Efficiency

The company’s footprint continued to widen during the quarter, with the consolidated restaurant network reaching a total of 766 outlets. Burger King India specifically accounted for 607 of these locations, having added 17 new stores since the end of June 2026.

Operational metrics also showed substantial improvement. Restaurant-level EBITDA (before Ind AS 116) rose by 53.7 percent to Rs 91 crore, with margins expanding from 10.4 percent to 12.9 percent. Similarly, the standalone company EBITDA saw a 94.1 percent jump to Rs 55.1 crore, as margins improved from 5 percent to 7.8 percent. These gains highlight the management’s success in balancing rapid physical expansion with disciplined cost management.

Leadership Outlook and Future Strategy

Commenting on the results, Madhusudan Agrawal, Chairman of Restaurant Brands Asia, expressed satisfaction with the firm’s current performance and its ongoing leadership trajectory.

Rajeev Varman, Group CEO and Whole-time Director, attributed the success to the dual drivers of steady same-store sales and a consistent increase in store count. Varman also noted a positive trend in the company’s Indonesian operations, which he stated are undergoing a successful revival thanks to targeted strategic interventions.

Looking ahead, the company has announced a key organizational update, confirming that Sumit Zaveri will take the lead in overseeing the India business operations, reporting directly to Varman. Regarding the firm’s roadmap, management remains committed to a three-pronged approach: sustaining momentum in sales growth, enhancing operational cost efficiencies, and continuing to aggressively expand the restaurant footprint across the region. With the Indian business now turning profitable, the company appears well-positioned to leverage its current scale to drive long-term value.
