Emraan Hashmi’s ‘Awarapan 2’ Emerges as a Blockbuster with Rs 113 Crore Opening Week
Emraan Hashmi has officially reclaimed his position as a box office powerhouse with the resounding success of his latest romantic action drama, Awarapan 2. In a remarkable turnaround for the actor, the film has concluded its first week in theaters with a commanding total of Rs 113.50 crore, cementing its status as a certified super hit.
The film, which capitalised on the lucrative Independence Day holiday window, has achieved an impressive 151 percent Return on Investment (ROI). This milestone not only highlights the film’s financial success but also marks a significant career high for Hashmi, who has been seeking a clean, high-impact theatrical victory.
A Consistent Performance
Released on August 14, Awarapan 2 enjoyed a strong opening weekend, bolstered by the enduring cult status of its 2007 predecessor. While the original Awarapan took time to find its audience through its iconic music and emotional narrative, the sequel hit the ground running immediately.
According to data from Sacnilk, the film debuted with Rs 22 crore on Friday, followed by an explosive 55 percent growth on Saturday, raking in Rs 33.75 crore. This surge was attributed to the Independence Day holiday and a strategic expansion in show counts, which jumped from 9,033 to 10,496 screenings.
Following a stable Sunday collection of Rs 26 crore, the film successfully navigated the crucial Monday test with Rs 9.25 crore. It demonstrated resilience on Tuesday, adding Rs 9.75 crore, before experiencing a moderate decline during the mid-week period. By Thursday—its seventh day of release—the film earned Rs 6 crore across 10,832 shows, bringing its seven-day total to a solid Rs 113.50 crore.
Rewriting the Record Books
The phenomenal performance of Awarapan 2 has caused a shuffle in the rankings of highly profitable post-COVID Independence Day releases. The film has officially outperformed Akshay Kumar and Pankaj Tripathi’s OMG 2, pushing the latter out of the top three list. For context, OMG 2 concluded its theatrical run with a 131 percent profit margin on a Rs 65 crore investment.
Industry analysts note that while Awarapan 2 has performed exceptionally well, overtaking the massive record held by Gadar 2 remains a daunting task. Regardless, for fans and trade experts alike, the Awarapan 2 box office collection serves as a testament to Emraan Hashmi’s continued relevance and star power in the Hindi film industry.
